Safia joins Poplar Union to champion Arts, Health & Inclusion
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Safia Jama MBE as the new Chair of Poplar Union!
A highly respected local leader and dedicated community activist, Safia brings with her an extraordinary depth of experience, insight, and passion for grassroots engagement. Her longstanding commitment to social justice, inclusion, and creative collaboration aligns perfectly with Poplar Union’s mission to foster meaningful connections among local residents through arts, culture, and community-led initiatives. Safia’s leadership is rooted in empathy, vision, and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our diverse East London communities.
Safia joins us at a pivotal moment in our journey, as we expand our Arts for Health programme—an initiative designed to support wellbeing, resilience, and healing through creative expression. Under her guidance, we are confident this work will flourish and reach even more people in need of connection and care.
We are thrilled to have Safia at the helm and look forward to the energy, wisdom, and inspiration she will bring to Poplar Union.
