Grand Union: ReGen Sound

ReGen Sound brings together masterful jazz musicians and non-standard instrumentalists, including players of Tabla, Kpanlogo, Piri, Mrimba, and Dikanza. Rooted in the rich musical traditions of South Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Korea, and Latin America, the group weaves diverse sounds into a unique and vibrant musical landscape.
Many of ReGen Sound’s core musicians are graduates of the Grand Union Youth Orchestra, where they were mentored by Grand Union musicians. They are now on the cusp of professional careers or already emerging as professional artists in their own right. The ensemble also regularly invites established musicians as guest artists, creating exciting opportunities for collaboration and musical exchange.
Each month brings something new—whether it’s original compositions created by the musicians themselves, or carefully selected pieces that reflect the theme of the performance.
ReGen Sound’s music is a celebration of cultural exchange, innovation, and the unifying power of rhythm.
About Grand Union Orchestra
The Grand Union Orchestra is the acknowledged pioneer and leading exponent of cross-cultural music-making in the UK. ReGen Sound are second-generation musicians who share each other’s heritages and explore West African, Caribbean, Bengali, European, and Korean music forms. Our Poplar Union monthly residency, now in its fifth year, showcases musicians from all of these cultures.
