Learn about the rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions of the South Asian art form of Alpona, a decorative practice that has been passed down through generations. In this engaging workshop, participants will learn the fundamental techniques of creating intricate geometric patterns and delicate floral designs that characterize this unique art form. We will create a nature themed piece inspired by traditional motifs, incorporating elements like flowing vines, blooming flowers, and symbolic patterns that represent the natural world.

Husna Parvin is a London based artist who specialises in fruit carving, painting and calligraphy. Having grown up in Bangladesh, I was captivated by the charm of these traditional designs, which have inspired me to continue practising and sharing this beautiful art form.In this workshop, I’ll guide participants step-by-step, breaking down the design process into simple, approachable techniques. We’ll begin by learning about the history and cultural importance of Alpona. Participants will start by sketching their designs with pencils on paper before bringing them to life with vibrant acrylic or watercolour paints.As confidence builds, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own unique Alpona-inspired patterns. This session is perfect for anyone looking to connect with art, culture, and creativity in a relaxed, supportive environment.
