Moving Beyond Labels & Exploring Identity through Creativity & Performance Making with Katie O’Brien , Poplar Union, East London, workshop for theatre makers, theatre, performance making, live workshop, tower hamlets, artists, actors, makers

This workshop has been cancelled due to Katie feeling unwell.

A workshop to creatively explore who we are when we drop all the mental health labels we have been given.

What to expect

Katie is the creator of Clean at 17, an autobiographical solo show about addiction, getting clean before she was legally allowed to drink, and the age-old question of nature vs. nurture.

In this workshop Katie will help others to explore, through creativity and performance making exercises, the way labels and stereotypes of disorders, mental health and disease function in society and the impact these have on our identity, lifestyle choices and self-esteem. We are often labelled and pathologized by experts, ourselves or society, this workshop will offer the chance to creatively respond to our identities and discuss ways to exist and think about ourselves and our humanity outside of labels and stereotypes.

This workshop is open to anyone (18+) with direct or indirect experience of mental health issues, an interest in the ‘human nature or nurture’ debate and a desire to explore performance making processes.
