Evening Art Class is back and this season we have local artist and educator, Virginia Hawke, with us hosting two 4-week courses perfect for all abilities.

What to expect

Starting at the end of September, the first course will cover techniques including masking, mark making, mono-printing, theory and perspective using acrylics. The second course starting in November, will delve into still life, collage and colour theory using charcoal and acrylics. Virginia will guide you through a series of processes and help you develop your own individual techniques.

All materials are provided but you’re welcome to bring your own.

About Virginia

I have worked in Tower Hamlets community arts for 28 years including adult education,Brady arts, A team youth arts, Tower Hamlets College,  Futureversity, TH children’s library service, Mudchute Farm, St Margarets House Create Place, local schools, medical centres and festivals. Currently teaching mixed media art and printmaking at the Ideas Store

I am a fully qualified art teacher specialising in mixed media, with  a modular art degree. Recently, I’ve been running workshops in marbling, screenprinting, interior design, acrylic pouring, oil painting, lino, decoupage, collage, mixed media, watercolours, silk painting, collage, tie dye, batik, and drawing. As well as teaching,  I mentor volunteers and train them to run their own art sessions. I also put on exhibitions and  collaborate with other art groups or organisations in community projects.

I particularly like working with local people in promoting wellbeing; I believe everyone has an artist inside them! I currently live on the Isle of Dogs, though lived on Cotall Street for many years before Poplar Union opened.
