Our fun West African djembe drumming sessions introduce children and adults to the exciting sounds and rhythms of the djembe — a traditional hand drum from West Africa.
Come and learn fun rhythms, explore different sounds, build confidence and discover the joy of making music together.
No previous drumming experience needed
Fun fact: The word djembe is often said to come from a Bambara phrase meaning “everyone gathering together in peace.”

Two sessions each day:
12pm–1.30pm (Beginner session) –A welcoming space for families and younger participants to take part together.1.30pm–3pm (Intermediate session) – For young people (14+) and adults who want to take part independently and explore rhythms in a slightly more focused session.
Across the programme, participants will explore powerful rhythms including Samba Reggae, Samba Afro, liex, Maracatu, Samba Batucada and Funk, while learning about the culture and community behind the music.
We offer family sessions and adult sessions, so everyone is welcome to take part, learn something new, and experience the energy of Brazilian percussion.
