About Kip Kompin Cinema
Kip Kompin Cinema is our interactive evening series hosted at venue partner Poplar Union, showcasing cinematic talent and inspiration from Sierra Leonean filmmakers. The term ‘Kip Kompin’ translates to ‘Keeping Company’ from Sierra Leonean Krio, and is a term used to describe informal gatherings of family, friends and acquaintances, which has always been the purpose of the event.

Kip Kompin Cinema, curated by The Young Sierra Leonean CIC aka Young Salone, began online in 2021 as a response to the pandemic, aiming to bring people together to enjoy Sierra Leonean cinema. Following the pandemic, we found a home at Poplar Union and have been thriving ever since.
The Young Sierra Leonean is a community interest organisation that aims to amplify Sierra Leonean creatives by showcasing their work to audiences beyond their immediate community.
