This October, Poplar Union proudly presents BLX 2024, a vibrant celebration of Black History Month’s theme of “Reclaiming Narratives,” supported by Tower Hamlets Council. Immerse yourself in a rich tapestry of drama, photography, live music, and a maker’s fair, all spotlighting Black heritage and contemporary culture. Featuring dynamic local talent, this exciting programme revives and honours Black British heritage, sparking conversations and strengthening community ties. Join us as we uplift and preserve the powerful stories that deserve to be heard and remembered.

London Calling by Hajia Dahiru

Hajia Dahiru is a London-based photographer. Her landscape screenprint exhibition reinforces the theme of reclamation through art.
Turning Point: Screening & Q&A

Sweet Patootee Arts presents a screening of short dramas set in 1920s Barbados and Jamaica, featuring performances from Paterson Joseph Suzette Llewellyn, Ashley D. Gayle, and Veronica Beatrice Lewis. Followed by a Q&A discussion. This event will delve into neglected narratives of early 20th-century Black British history.
BLX Bazaar / Black Makers Market

Co-curated by Greentea Peng with Poplar Union, the BLX Bazaar features a lively Makers Market of Black-owned businesses, from fashion to beauty products. On stage, musicians and performers entertain you till late evening. Join Create & Display, an interactive space to create and exhibit your art. Food and refreshments by E5, our in-house cafe and En Root.

Grand Union presents Reclaiming Narratives: A Musical Celebration
