Beyond the Veil is a long-term photography documentary capturing the reality of Muslim women in the UK. By recording and capturing the many stories of each woman, or various events and celebrations, it aims to give an insider glimpse into the Muslim community to break down stereotypes. Story-telling is a powerful way to open up dialogue between communities.

Photographer Sylvie Belbouab is a Muslim woman who has spent more than 20 years in East London. For the past five years, she has been capturing events, activities and portraits of various women. Working with charities and community centres, she delivers photography workshops alongside her documentary work to support people to use the medium as a form of expression and improve well-being.
