BABYCINO – Lights, Camera, Cuddles: Why a Film Space for Parents and Babies Matters

Lights, Camera, Cuddles: Why a Film Space for Parents and Babies Matters
Becoming a new parent is a beautiful, transformative experience—but let’s be honest, it can also be a whirlwind of sleepless nights, endless nappies, and the occasional identity crisis. That’s why at Poplar Union, we’re carving out space—literally and figuratively—for parents to come as they are, babies in tow, and enjoy a bit of much-deserved escapism. Welcome to our BabyCino: a cosy, supportive space where wellbeing and storytelling go hand in hand.
Because Parents Deserve a Break Too
We know how hard it can be to find moments of calm and connection as a new parent. Traditional cinemas don’t always feel accessible—will the baby cry? Will there be changing facilities? Will I be shushed for breastfeeding? At Poplar Union, we say: come as you are. We dim the lights (not too low), keep the sound gentle, and create a relaxed atmosphere where everyone understands what it’s like to juggle bottles, blankets and a plotline.
Giving parents a reason to leave the house, connect with others, and do something just for themselves is a powerful act of care. It’s not just a film—it’s a reminder that your story matters too.
Community, Not Just a Film Screening
These screenings aren’t just about watching movies—they’re about building micro-communities. It’s a chance to meet other local parents, swap tips, laugh about the ups and downs of parenting, and feel less alone. Isolation can be a real challenge in early parenthood, especially in cities. Our aim is to gently tackle that, one friendly chat (and one film) at a time. At the end of the day, we’re offering more than entertainment—we’re offering solidarity.
Why Poplar Union?
Poplar Union has always been a place rooted in community, creativity, and care. We listen to what our neighbours need—and what we’ve been hearing loud and clear is this: new parents want inclusive, judgement-free spaces where they can unwind and still feel part of something bigger.
Our Parent & Baby film space is just one of the many ways we’re responding to that call. Whether you’re on maternity/paternity leave or just popping by between naps, we’re here to make you feel seen, supported and welcome.
So bring the buggy, bring the baby, and bring yourself—just as you are.
