COVID Health & Safety Measures

Your safety is our priority. Here is an update on our safety measures we have in place at Poplar Union.

Poplar Union’s Response to Step 4 of the Roadmap

The below represents the safety measures being taken in response to the fourth stage of the government’s roadmap regarding Covid-19 restrictions. Whilst we appreciate some elements may differ from legal requirements set down by the government, we feel these rules must remain in place to ensure the safety of our staff, visitors and to prevent the spread of Covid-19. We politely ask all visitors to comply with the following and respect our staff when enforcing the rules.

Please have a read of the new changes we have in place:

When you arrive

Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your event start time. Groups of more than 6 people or 2 households will now be permitted to arrive together.

All visitors to Poplar Union above the age of 12 and unless medically exempt will be required to wear a face covering upon arrival at the building and when moving around the building. Once you are sat down for an event or are based in the studio where you are working/hiring, only then can face coverings be removed. Should you leave a studio to use the bathroom, exit the building, get water etc. a mask must be put on prior to leaving your seat and/or studio.

Poplar Union staff will also be following these guidelines.

Refusal to comply with this rule (unless medically exempt) will result in attendees being asked to leave the building or have entry refused upon arrival.

All Poplar Union staff and visitors are expected to frequently and thoroughly wash their hands with warm water and soap.
Hand sanitiser stations will remain in place throughout the building and we invite guests to sanitise their hands upon arriving and leaving the building.

Visitors are no longer required to sign into the NHS test and trace system or Poplar Union’s in-house system but will continue to be displayed on site as an option for attendees to use.

Contactless Sales & Ticket Booking

All events will continue to be pre-book only, though in some circumstances, we may allow payments on the door if absolutely necessary. By pre-booking, we are able to monitor capacities more accurately and reduce the need for queuing and congregating in groups on site when waiting for an event to begin.

We will aim to provide a contactless payment system for tickets and would urge all visitors to use cards as opposed to cash as much as possible.

We hope these safety measures and continued efforts will ensure visitors feel safe at Poplar Union.

Your event

We will continue to observe the 1m social distancing rule throughout the building.

Seats will be placed 1m apart for events, unless customers have booked in groups, in which case either PU staff will group seats together ahead of an event, or visitors are welcome to move their seats closer to one another.

We ask that you wear your face covering at all times when moving around the building. You are welcome to remove it once you are seated.

Please listen to any instructions or directions from our staff.

Once the event has finished, please remain seated until a staff member comes to lead you out using the one-way system to exit. Please ensure you maintain social distancing.

For each event, audience numbers will be capped accordingly to ensure you and our staff feel safe in the building.

We have 6 toilets and 1 accessible toilet (with baby change) plus 4 additional toilets and 1 accessible (with baby change) in the café. There will be spot checks throughout the day/night to ensure they are clean and sanitised for use.

If our theatre bar is open, we will not be operating table service but invite customers to collect their own drinks whilst remaining socially distanced. The bar will run on a contactless, card-only service.

Poplar Bakehouse will be open when possible. You can find out more about their COVID-19 response and safety measuring by clicking here.

Our staff safety measures

All staff will have their temperature checked on arrival. They will wear face coverings throughout your visit.

Spot cleans will continue to take place throughout the day/night including cleaning toilets, door handles, chairs, tables and all equipment used.

If you have a question or feel like a staff member is not abiding by COVID regulations, please let us know immediately.
