We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting Sunday Assembly East End here at Poplar Union every second Sunday of the month.

Who are Sunday Assembly?

Sunday Assembly is an inclusive, secular congregation. There are now over 70 assemblies running in over 80 different countries. Through fascinating talks, classic pop singalongs, poetry, and instant coffee (amongst other things), these meet ups are a great way to come together and celebrate life.

Sunday Assembly East End at Poplar Union – February

This February, with cupid in town, you’ll be exploring the HEART as a vital organ, metaphor and emotional HQ.

We welcome Dr Fay Bound Alberti – writer, historian and co-founder of the Centre for the History of Emotions at Queen Mary, University of London. Fay will be sharing her research in her talk “Furnace, Pump or Emotional Centre: Heartfelt Stories of the Body.” Through case histories and metaphors, Fay Bound Alberti brings different versions of the heart together and asks: where do heartfelt feelings come from? And what is their place in the 21st century?

About Dr Fay Bound Alberti

Fay has written widely on the history of gender, emotion, medicine and the body and recent works include: Matters of the Heart: History, Medicine and Emotion (Oxford University Press, 2010) and This Mortal Coil: The Human Body in History and Culture (Oxford University Press, 2016). She is currently writing books about loneliness and face transplants. For more information see www.fayboundalberti.com.

What else to expect!

As well as hearing from Fay, there will be live band mega-singalongs, shared wisdom, the very first This Much WE Know, possibly roses, probably chocolates…

*** Assemblies are free to attend and run entirely on donations. Please bring cash and support us if you can to keep it free for those who can’t ***
