Embroidery & Book Cover Course

10am-1pm: The Embroidery Lab with Veronica Rowlands

Join Veronica in this morning session where participants will be introduced to a range of hand embroidery stitches and techniques, creating their own sampler and then go on to create a mini embroidery piece/embellishment for their book cover.

2pm-5pm: Sew Your Own Book Cover with Maud Barrett

After a quick lunch break, your afternoon will be spent making a charming and unique book cover using your embroidered fabric. Maud will teach you how to measure and cut your fabric to fit your book’s dimensions and will guide you to make the book cover using machine and hand sewing techniques. Finally you will learn how to applique your embroidery onto your cover.

Fabric

These classes champion upcycling so you are encouraged to bring along any unwanted clothing or fabric lying around the house. Not to worry if you don’t have anything; you are welcome to use the fabric provided.

Donations of fabrics are always welcome so drop any unwanted materials off at the Poplar Union office or e5 Roasthouse.

Sewing Machines

Sewing machines will be provided. If the classes are fully booked, you will work in pairs with one sewing machine between two of you. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you’d prefer.

All abilities welcome

You will work from a general template that Maud and Veronica will guide you through step by step. If you’re a confident sewer, you’re welcome to go off piste!
