Peter Edwards’ trio will be presenting new material that is inspired by Miles Davis’ 1970s electric period and the music of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters. Support on the night from the Grand Union Re-Generation band.

About the Trio

The Trio have released 2 albums, ‘Safe and Sound’ (2013) and ‘A Matter of Instinct’ (2016). Both have been reviewed favourably – 3* Guardian, 4* Evening Standard and 4* MOJO. The ‘psychedelic soul sessions’ is a new direction for the band since embracing the influence of the 70’s electric period of Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. Their new sound palette blends driving jazz funk grooves with afro beat, lush string pads and soulful melodic improvised explorations.

About the Re-Generation Band

The Re:Generation Band has grown out of the Grand Union Youth Orchestra, more experienced musicians on the threshold of a professional career. They work with musicians from the Grand Union Orchestra, themselves mainly first generation migrants, experts in their own global musical traditions – South Asian, African, Caribbean and Latin-American.

About Peter Edwards

Peter Edwards is a pianist, composer and musical director whose ‘guileless, soulful music…[is] full of emphatic chording, Latin grooves and romantic, cinematic themes’ (Guardian) . He is the 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Awards ‘Newcomer of the year’ and was among the nominees for the 2015 Jazz FM ‘Breakthrough Artist’ award. He works with acclaimed artists Mica Paris and Zara McFarlane, directs the Nu Civilisation Orchestra and has been commissioned to compose music for the New Music Biennial 2017 (PRS Foundation).
