Celebrate Black History Month with Barbara Ellis and her two puppet friends, Breda and Sista Anansi, and explore the past and present heroes of Africa through storytelling and crafts!

What’s an Anansi Story?

Anansi or Anansy stories are part of an ancient mythology that is rooted in West African folklore and looks at the interaction between divine and semi-divine beings, royalty, humans, animals, plants and seemingly inanimate objects. These stories continue to provide a moral foundation for communities.

What to expect

In this session, friendly puppets, Breda and Sista Anansi, will tell the stories of past and present African heroes, bringing them to life in this fun and magical storytelling workshop.

About Barbara Ellis

Barbara Ellis is the author of Tiger Hunt (2010), and An African Journey (Book 1, 2016 | Book 2, 2018). The main characters in both books are Sista and Breda Anancy. Barbara brought the characters to life by making them into life size puppets and now use them to teach children about these ancient stories.
